Description

A letter by a Faculty Senate Committee asking the Board of Student Publications to more closely oversee the editorial work of the Florida Flambeau. The letter further asserts the need for the editorial committee to reflect the majority opinion of students, as its current iteration only brings disrepute to Florida State. The Board of Student Publications voted to send the letter back for further clarification, when chairman of the Faculty Senate Committee Richard Joel stated, "he felt that the board understood what the committee wished it to do." The letter was then rejected, but the Board reissued a statement of principles with the caveat that they would interpret it with the widest possible latitude to allow for editorial freedom in topics.

Although nothing in this letter specifically states that this was about the editors choices to print letters and articles regarding desegregation it can be inferred given its placement in conversation with the coverage of that topic.
